Mystery Building

What a strange building! It seemingly has some rooms at the ground floor, but, those stairs lead to …. nothing.

I'm thinking of starting a competition for the sake of identifying its purpose. I pass by the mystery twice a day and every time my curiosity rise. Is it a statue? Does it have an industrial or functional purpose? Is it a sign of the corruption?

I've asked the “what-is-that” questions to more than 20 fine engineers and none have given an answer. Not even a suggestion.

I don't know why, but I'm always reminded of M. C. Escher's Relativity whenever I look at it. Oh my God!! Could it really be that? An attempt to model the masterpiece? After all, similar attempts have been carried out before.

So, if you think you know what that building does, please, spare time to put a bunch of wonderers out of their misery.

On a different note: There are some good images of plain awkwardness at Only-In-Egypt. I like the About post.

EGJUG First Meeting

I have attended the First EGJUG meeting and it was a good kickstart. EGJUG is an attempt to bring together Egyptian Java enthusiasts, help promote Java in Egypt, and raise the skills of Java developers.

With 290+ members and only around 10 attending the first meeting, the group needs a hell lot of marketing. There's also a good chance the Java developers around aren't that interested in such groups/meeting/events. I experienced the same lack of interest when trying to establish a meeting among Alexandria Java User group. That said, I think EGJUG have a better chance given the current mindset and experience of moderators, and core team.

There's an initial plan to invite a different speaker each month, so, I'll be trying to reach out for some experts for Java-related talks.

If you have an interest in either talking or attending, or have any other suggestions in that respect, I'm all ears and eyes.

Me… Cartoonized

I was finally able to cartoonize my photo, not bad (I think). Karl's tutorial (Family Portrait Artist) is real fun, extremely easy to follow and is making rounds (via SVN via Photojojo). Will be doing more photos of family and friends.

As for the photo making itself, I used Inkscape, didn't bother to spend time on hair for obvious reasons, and spent more than expected doing the business shirt. Next ones would be easier. What do you think?
