Netbeans Again

I'm going back to NetBeans.

One year ago I ditched NetBeans and went for eclipse (partly becuase of speed, partly because of interface), but the lack of opensource simple JSP editors had made me take the decision of going back to netbeans (hope I won't regret it).
NetBeans comes bundled with its own JSP editors and built in web container (Tomcat) and that's as a start.

Although I'm using Websphere at work, I'm trying to use an opensource IDE on my personal work.
Despite the fact that one (at least in Egypt) can work with whatever commercial IDEs s/he wants (all pirated), yet, out of ethical/neligious/legal/financial concern I'm decisive on staying with OpenSource tools.

The future is here (if you're in Japan)

While store shopping, ever wondered how much that book, CD, gadget… cost on Amazon?

Now, according to a Gizmodo article (slashdotted here), if you're in Japan, you can easily know the price of that item by photographing its barcode via your cellphone (equipped with freely downloadable software), and send its info to Amazon.co.jp to know its price, and buy it if you want.

I'm about to cry.

I guess the moral of such stories for someone living in Egypt, is that these technologies are an overkill. Who would want such technology anyway, or even want to know the prices of such commodities as Books, CDs, etc… Those things do not even exist.

Nice image from Amazon.co.jp to show you what they mean

Changes to my Blog

Recent changes:

  • Background title image (sunset.jpg): The picture was taken during September 2004 in Alexandria, Egypt. The beach is Aida beach (yes, the same name as that of the opera).
  • Rearrangements and Additions to the right navigation bar and in the CSS.
  • Recent Comments Shortcut based on Euxx's velocity code (I guess I've already started wtih with Velocity scripting).

The weblog is receiving more than usual referrals (with some Google search including my name in) [Tamer Salama].
It seems that I'm getting famous :-). Some housekeeping won't hurt.

  • W:Bloggar - Cool Tool

This is my first post using W:Bloggar(Well sort of - I had to post it first to the blog, then publish it from there - WBloggar gave me a type mismatch error).
What a wonderful tool, It simply rocks (just hope it works :-) ).

What else could one need? (mmmm…. an eclipse plugin for JSP editing? :-) )
Thanks to Marcelo L. L. Cabral for this piece of work.

    Eclipse going back to Netbeans

I'm still so tired having no decent JSP plugins. Eclipse's Web Tools Platform (M1) is not working with Eclipse (3.1 M3) or at least I can't set it up to work correctly (it can't even detect any changes even with “-clean” flag).

LOMBOZ was working on 2.1 and could be working with 3.0, but not with 3.1M3 (as far as I've been trying - it is still giving me “Unable to create part problem”). I might rollback to 3.0.

MyEclipse looks tempting and I might go for test drive.

Personally, I feel that I'm going back to Netbeens soon. It seems that they've worked on the interface a bit, and hopefully there would be some speed improvements.

Appreciate your suggestions, I'll keep you updated.

    Google - Cairo Office

I was excited when I first heard that Google has launched its first Cairo office. Yet again….

    Eclipse and JSPs plugins

I'm fed up with trying to get an Eclipse plugin for JSP editing. I just want a simple opensource plugin that would help me with JSP editing. LOMBOZ won't work with Eclipse 3.1 (mined the mailing lists, forums with no chance/time to get it to work). Others do not provide any decent functionalities.

I will try the Web Tools Platform today and hopefully can get it to work.

    Any suggestions>

    Software project managers

“I Know Why Software Sucks”. very refreshing and insightful thread in “artima developers” about the process of managing software project, or simply, managers. enjoy.
